The band takes its own photos, designs its own sleeves, and makes a perfume for each record
Roomer have handled their own promo images and covers from the start. Luka Aron also composes a scent to go with each album, which is either a gimmick or the most complete world-building on this page.
Play on YouTubeRoomer are Ronja Schößler, Ludwig Wandinger and Luka Aron, in Berlin, releasing through Munich's Squama Recordings.
The Line of Best Fit sets out how self-contained the operation is: "Beyond the fact that Wandinger is also a visual artist, the band have historically taken their own promo photos and designed their record covers themselves, though they conceded to collab with the graphic designer from their current label for this cover and worked with the acclaimed German-Chinese photographer Prissilya Junewin for this cycle."
We're really eager to try things ourselves, and we enjoy all of these steps.
The scent
Luka Aron makes a perfume to accompany each record. On the last one:
For the last record, I think the inspiration for the smell was kind of mixed between a musky, mouldy rehearsal space and a forest walk, because I feel those were maybe the two places we worked in mostly.
A rehearsal room and a forest is a precise description of what shoegaze has always sounded like, and nobody had thought to render it as a smell.
